My name is Axel Jerabek. As a passionate mushroom forager and CTO in an IT company, I often wondered how to make the tedious planning of mushroom trips simpler and more efficient. Manually searching for the right locations and weather conditions was inefficient and time-consuming, especially in the Scottish Highlands, where weather conditions can vary greatly from mountain to mountain and nature thrives differently accordingly.
This challenge led to the creation of Waldschatzfinder: a platform that combines IT expertise and a love for nature. My in-depth knowledge of meteorology, which I gained as a glider pilot in the Scottish Highlands, flows directly into the development of our analyses and models.
My fascination with the weather is deeply rooted. For ten years, I was a passionate glider pilot in the Scottish Highlands. This experience gave me a special understanding of meteorological contexts and the importance of precise weather data. As a private pilot license holder, I know how crucial proper preparation is. I have incorporated this knowledge into the development of the analyses and AI models for Waldschatzfinder.
My personal happiness is closely tied to nature. With my Finnish-Swedish wife and our two children, we often spend the summers in our house by the lake in Finland. There we live what Waldschatzfinder wants to make possible in the UK: we pick mushrooms and berries and fish ourselves, right outside the door – a true paradise.
These experiences are the motivation to make nature and its treasures accessible and experienceable for others too.
Waldschatzfinder is more than just a technical application. It is the result of a deep connection to nature, combined with the desire to share this love and the joy of discovery with others.
